Election 2025

Thescorre is getting Nexcellencies!!

We are currently in the process of electing our new Baronage. If you are a member of the Barony (live within the zipcodes covered by Thescorre) and are a PAID member of the SCA, Inc, and are over 14yrs of age, then you should have received a ballot in the mail recently. If you did not, please email seneschal1@thescorre.aethelmearc.org to let Fridrikr know that you did not receive a ballot.

See below for a min-intro to the candidates.

For a full write-up of the candidates, please see our Election issue of Fewmet.

The Candidates

Daniel of Blackthorn and Mary of Blackthorn

Daniel and Mary 2025

Daniel enjoys heavy fighting, armor repair, combat archery. He finds it fulfilling to build the fighting community through recruitment, organizing demos, helping and teaching new fighters, stewarding events, and acquiring equipment for the barony.
Mary enjoys mostly arts and sciences – She started spinning wool a few years ago to keep her hands busy while spectating the fighting, and now she is also making some attempts to learn to weave and nalbind. At Pennsic this year, she figured out how to use a lucet to make cord and has quite enjoyed that. she has also done some limited sewing and cooking and recently made ink from acorns to gift to a friend. She also loves watching bardic circles, though Mary, herself, is not a bard. For the complete writeup, see the most recent FEWMET.

Additional Populace questions:

Please give a short introduction:

We would like people – newcomers and populace alike, to feel comfortable coming to us and we would like to help them find ways to enjoy the Barony and all it has to offer. It is important that we are helping guide our newcomers to the things that they will find fun within the SCA and that we make them feel welcome and included. In the same way, Mary is hoping this will help her become more connected to not just the Barony, but also the Kingdom and the populace as a whole.

What will you do in the Barony if you are NOT elected?

Daniel: I plan to continue Heavy Fighting and Demo planning/execution. I am putting together a metal workshop for the armorer’s guild and hope to have that up and running soon.

Mary: I will be starting to have A&S days on the days that we host armoring. I think it will be nice to have company when they are working in the basement and I know that others would ilke to get together to do their art, so I believe this will be a great pairing. I plan to continue drop spinning, possibly teach it, and I am trying to learn to weave.

There has been a large boom in the fighting community in Thescorre lately and that is great, but how will you create a better balance in the Barony between ALL of the things the Barony does?

We will continue the armoring and add in A&S monthly (if not more often). We believe that this is already at the center of what we are doing in the Barony at this time.We work with new fighters to find what they are interested in and then try to point them in the direction of what else the Barony has to offer.

There is a question at the top of each ballot: Should we remain a Barony/become a Shire, etc. Please tell me why we should remain a Barony:

We are already going strong and growing our group. This is exactly why we would become a Barony in the first place, so it would make no sense to not remain a Barony and continue to grow.

Are you going to Pennsic and if so, are you camping with the group?

We attend Pennsic every other year, due to expenses and life obligations. This past August 2025 we had a great time camping with the barony and would love to do it again in 2027, though 2026 is not a Pennsic year for us.

Bronwyn nic Gregor and Rosemund von Glinde

Rosemund and Bronwyn 2025

We enjoy the service aspects of the SCA, especially when we can connect with people. Sitting hospitality at Pennsic or even registration is enjoyable because of the ability to make those connections. Being around people and welcoming people, sharing our experience, and teaching people is rewarding and inspiring. Despite being in the SCA for more than three decades, we continue to find new things to learn and inspiration in unexpected places. We also enjoy cooking. Rosemund enjoys illumination and Bronwyn focuses on fiber arts. For the complete writeup, see the most recent FEWMET.

Additional Populace questions:

Please give a short introduction:

We have both been in the SCA for some time and have done this role in the past. We would like to bring our experience forward, bring back some older traditions, but incorporate the inclusivity and joy that the SCA has today. We hope to include “older” members of the Barony by reaching out and having our artisans bring their skills back to teach and guide our newer members.

Additionally, because we are not both living in the same household, we feel that will give us more ability to “divide and conquer” (do more things in the same amount of time since we have two households that will be supporting us through this). We look forward to working with the officers to promote and support what they do as well. Mostly, we’d like to make sure people are having fun and feeling included.

What will you do in the Barony if you are NOT elected?

Bronwyn: I will continue what I already do: knitting, embroidery, current level of service, etc.

Rosemund: I used to paint moer in the SCA and I miss it, so I plan to get back into that as well as more cooking and obviously continued service.

Both: We have always done quite a bit of our service together and we look forward to continuing that in the future, regardless of the outcome of the election. So far we know we will be helping with Ice Dragon registration and hospitality at Pennsic and whatever we find to do at local events.

There has been a large boom in the fighting community in Thescorre lately and that is great, but how will you create a better balance in the Barony between ALL of the things the Barony does?

We plan to look into getting together more often as a group, possibly for pop-up workshops or “all inclusive” days, where we do as many of the things as we can at the same time. We want tot look into getting rooms at community centers and libraries to facilitate this, so we have more space to work with and hopefully can either be more centralized or move around the Barony so everyone has a chance to attend. We may even have some at our homes, depending on what the get-together will entail. We especially like the concept of having fighting, fencing, cooking, A&S all in the same place so people can try new things and see what’s available without the pressure of an event.

There is a question at the top of each ballot: Should we remain a Barony/become a Shire, etc. Please tell me why we should remain a Barony:

We’ve done so much to become a Barony and worked so hard to remain one throughout the decades, we would hate to get rid of all that hard work. It makes more sense to build on that and continue to grow rather than diminish the work of so many.

Are you going to Pennsic and if so, are you camping with the group?

We had a lot of fun at Pennsic over the years and we would like to bring that joy to the barony. We believe that we could really have a great time with the barony doing all different activities at Pennsic during our term.

Roberta Rhianon McMorland and Diego Miguel Munoz de Castilla

Roberta and Diego 2025

First and foremost, we enjoy spending time with our chosen family, guiding them and watching them grow and be recognized for their efforts. We enjoy watching martial activities on all fields. We enjoy many aspects of the Arts & Sciences and have dabbled in a number of them over the years. For the complete writeup, see the most recent FEWMET.

Additional Populace questions:

Please give a short introduction:

We have both been active in many areas of the SCA and enjoy seeing what people are doing in all aspects it.  We want to encourage people to try new things, work with officers to learn new duties, find the things within the SCA that bring them joy.  This is how we help our Society grow and thrive.

What will you do in the Barony if you are NOT elected?

Roberta:  Continue to work on the million unfinished projects that taunt me daily.

Diego:  Continue to support the Barony & the Kingdom where ever I am needed.

We both have been looking at taking up something new and that could happen no matter the outcome.

There has been a large boom in the fighting community in Thescorre lately and that is great, but how will you create a better balance in the Barony between ALL of the things the Barony does?

We would love to see more use made of Red Shield Hall for get togethers, be it more socializing or for SCA related activities.  The best way to get more interest in our varied offerings is to teach and encourage people to try things.  It is easier to “taste test” something when you have samples to play with like an ax to throw or a scroll blank to paint.  Lets make these things available.

There is a question at the top of each ballot: Should we remain a Barony/become a Shire, etc. Please tell me why we should remain a Barony:

We are a Barony that inspires others and have been so for since before AEthelmearc existed.

Are you going to Pennsic and if so, are you camping with the group?
